Ready to deploy to devastating eathquake in Chile

A team from Rescue Global are prepring to deploy for Chile where a devastating earthquake struck at 3.34am local time on Saturday February 27th. (GMT -3 hours)

The tremor, reportedly 1,000 times more powerful than the recent earthquake in Haiti, was centred 70 miles from the nation’s second largest City, Conception.

A Tsunami warning is also in place throughout the Pacific Rim region.

Scores of people are known to have died – communication lines are down and the full extent of the devastation is as yet unknown but is believed to be extensive.

Haiti Earthquake Victim

A devastating earthquake struck the Caribbean country on the evening of January 12th, causing thousands of deaths, and widespread building damage.

The epicenter of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake was just 10 miles from thew capital Port-au-Prince.

The UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs said initial reports suggested “a high number of casualties and widespread damage, with an urgent need for search and rescue”.

A Rescue Global Team deployed to provide:

Experienced and qualified Team Leaders
Private Air (heli and jet) assets to assist in movement of teams, reconnaissance and evacuations
Liaison with and between private, charity, ngo, media, official and other organizations on the ground locally, and their news and reporting centers regionally and internationally
Communications and liaison equipment

Rescue Global remains on the ground providing assistance in the areas of disaster recovery, ongoing medical aid in the field, and soon with security teams providing support in the lead up to rebuilding efforts.

Rescue Global Opens Hong Kong Regional Office

In anticipation of the Rescue Global launch set for 1st of January 2010, the Hong Kongoffice was opened this week, 1st of December 2009.

In the fashionable region of Wan Chai, the Rescue Global Asia Pacific office features:

A 24 hour office with local staff
Accommodation for Search and rescue Team personnel
Full Gold and Silver Command service support facilities (see Capabilities section for details of Gold and Silver Command)
Storage for Team equipment for the Asia Pacific region

Rescue Global opens London HQ

In anticipation of the Rescue Global launch set for 1st of January 2010, the London HQ was opened this week, 30th of November 2009.

2 sites have been established.

The first is in Soho in central London. This location will serve as a focus for UK based fund raising, team and partnership meetings and our European PR ad Press Office.

The second is a back up location for all files and administration, and also serve as our European Gold Command Centre in support of Operations when Teams deploy.

Weather conditions permitted further search of volcano

Better visibility today, means more comprehensive search capability

Red Cross and Task Force Bravo search teams are continuing to search Sites 1A, 1B, and 1C – which have not yet been completely searched due to poor visibility yesterday. A forward operating base was established yesterday, south of the two volcano sites, using helicopter support. This enabled teams to camp closer to the search sites last night, and to start the search again at first light this morning.

3 Helicopters drop 3 teams into different search areas

Helicopters Rescue 1, Warrior 32, and Warrior 33 have now inserted search teams onto Category A search sites 1A, 1B, 1C to continue the search of these areas. Sectorised command and control has been established by Rescue Global and the Red Cross, supported by Task Force Bravo communications.
